Girl Running

48x60"
oil on canvas

Strikingly similar to 'Speed Empowerment,' this painting is actually part of a new series I am working on that is more about fear and running than empowerment (in origin anyway). I'll see how the paintings develop, but there is an underlying interest in 'the chase' as well as 'the search.' Take that any way you like.

Latest pic shows close up/some changes to the face.

Blab! And Other Openings at Bergamot

Saturday night was such a busy opening night. This was my first real taste of Bergamot Station mad- house-craziness. Blab! was opening at the same time as( at least) 10 other shows.
And we had to park really far away so as not to deal with drunken parking lot insanity. Overall it was a pretty fun night. At left are pics of artist Ryan Heshka and I as well as his girlfriend Mirinda (blue dress) and I at the Blab! show. Blab! Fun!

Touring Galleries In My Hood

Best of the evening: Black Maria Gallery in Atwater Village had a show of Jennybird Alcantara and Craig LaRotonda's paintings. (That's me talking to Jennybird in the striped shirt.)

'Looky See' show at Ben Maltz Gallery

Another beautiful group show curated by Meg Linton. Fred Stonehouse was back in town for the opening. His work is humorous and fun- and always unique. I'm happy I had the opportunity to work with him.

The after party was very LA with an outdoor bar leading down to a swimming pool (we left before anyone was drunk enough to jump in). Good times.

Back from NYC in time for more openings in LA

I stopped in at Corey Helford Gallery on Saturday to see The Inky Dreadfuls before going across the street to Koplin Del Rio to see the Laguna College MFA and Mentor group show (it was hard to tell which was which).
I ended at Billy Shire Fine Art to see Shawn Barber's realist portraits of tattoo artists before calling it a night.

Evening of Art Openings

This Saturday's art-going consisted of:

Angles Gallery where Eva Struble was having her first LA show (though she is currently residing in Barcelona)...

Track 16 where Jeremy Lipking's exquisite realist paintings still made me long for a unique interpretation of experience...

Richard Heller where Victoria Reynolds showed her gruesome yet playful paintings of raw meat...

Mark Moore Gallery where I met Ali Smith, and several other Bergamot Station openings... ultimately ending the night at

Corey Helford Gallery with the Carlos Ramos show where I was happy to meet Carlos and also Korin Faught- a sweet figure painter that I admire (shown top left).

Juxtapoz Retrospective Opening at Laguna Art Museum

The opening of "In The Land Of Retinal Delights: The Juxtapoz Factor" proved quite entertaining and Fred Stonehouse introduced me to a lot of great people including Gary Baseman (also pictured left).

Kate Hudson and Lance Armstrong made an appearance. That picture cred and more about the Juxtapoz show here.

Relocation: Los Angeles

Hey everyone,

I have been enjoying getting to know LA including the access to major art collections and the many emerging and established galleries (not to mention the weather)! There seems to be a wonderful 'vibe' for figure painting and I'm excited to get to know the other artists and enthusiasts.

On a side note: I started a little blog called LA Painter where I'm posting other artists/paintings in LA that are currently on view. It is partly for me to keep track, but maybe you'll enjoy it too and share your opinions.

Looking forward to painting and posting for you again soon,

Katelyn
