This Fall: Openings and Open Studios

Hello and Happy Fall! The world feels upside down, but art is a perfect and necessary antidote. Here's what's upcoming:

1. Single Fare opens this Saturday Sept. 16, 5-8pm at Highline Stages - 441 W 14th Street in NYC.
A big show of small works on used MetroCards. I have 4 included. 100 bucks each. Single Fare will also be on view all day on Sunday, Sept. 17th, 12-6.  *Editors pick at ArtNet News for what to do this weekend(link)

2. Save the date: Gowanus Open Studios, Oct. 21,22
Put this on your calendar right now! See artists at work in their natural habitat. My latest paintings will be on view so come and chat about ideas and a better vision of tomorrow. 98 4th St, Brooklyn, NY. Link to the Artist Directory and map here.

3. If you're still reading, I'm working on even more oil on MetroCard paintings and you can purchase for 100 each. Just private message me your address through instagramfb where I post them or email (katelynalain@yahoo.com) with the one you want. I accept paypal, venmo, and old fashioned check. It's easy, efficient, and the little gems will mail to you for free.

Lastly, check out my updated website KatelynAlain.com for all available works and shoot me an email to inquire or to schedule a studio visit.

Stay sane. Stay inspired. I hope to see you soon.

Press Release:
ArtHelix is pleased to announce The Unreliable Narrator, a group exhibition featuring works by Kathy Grove, Bonnie Rychlak, Ellen Brooks, Judith Linhares, Elaine Reicheck, Rona Pondick, Susan Unterberg, Jeanne Silverthorne, Nancy Mladenoff, Jackie Cantwell, Maria Kreyn, Katelyn Alain, Angela Strassheim, Jessie Brugger, Meghan Boody, Mihyun Kang, Claire Watson, Cynthia Ruse, Christy Armendariz, Elizabeth Saveri, Joanne Ross, Hazel Santino, Sarah Smith, Katelin Hudson, and Yael Malka.

This is an exhibition of some artists, all women, ranging in age from their early twenties to their seventies, who have endeavored, directly or indirectly, to “represent” themselves in their work. The title of the exhibition, “The Unreliable Narrator,” is a way to suggest that this effort is more complex than may at first seem.

Time Is Jagged

time is jagged
intricate as ancient lace
hidden and pulsing
beneath skin
and matted hair

The smell of your forehead
your excessively soft cheek
pressed to mine like a blind contour
moving in no particular direction

Please don't leave me
alone
with that low winter light
a soft ache between my rib cage
of negative space and tired epiphany

or that pale Vermeer wall

The moments are careless
as they rush
to obliterate now
yet they pile up whole

until they are tucked in
ready to hum to
in the invisible dark
